Penguins Helping Haiti

Two fourth grade students, J.D. and Jared, from Prune Hill Elementary launched a loose-change fundraiser to aid in earthquake-relief efforts in Haiti. They set a goal of $600, created and distributed flyers, and encouraged students to donate spare coins in their classrooms. In a great real-time application of math skills, all Prune Hill students counted the change accumulated during the two-week fundraiser.

J.D. and Jared were astounded to realize they collected over $1,800 thanks to the generosity of the Prune Hill community.

"It is heartwarming to see our kids reaching out to those in need," commented Principal Julie Swan. "Way to go Penguins!"

The donation will be given to the Mercy Corps Haiti Relief Fund.
