Fall Sports Update from CHS

Student athletes at CHS are no slackers! These amazing students have proven to be not only top in their game, but also top scholars. Take a moment to check out their latest accomplishments and the team grade point averages.

Volleyball (3.59 Varsity GPA)
Last night, the Papermaker Volleyball team won their third straight District IV Championship by defeating Prairie in three straight games.  This district title is the team’s latest accomplishment.  Last week, the girls made school history by finishing the regular season as undefeated league champions.  Coach Nidick will be taking team to the District III-IV Volleyball Tournament this Friday and Saturday at Auburn-Mountain View High School (the girls’ first game will be at 6:00 PM Friday). Ticket prices are $7.00 for adults and students without ASB, $5.00 for students with ASB and $4.00 for elementary students. For more information, visit http://www.wcd3.org/g_volleyball.htm

Girls Swimming (3.59 Varsity GPA)
The girls finished second in League and have qualified 26 swimmers for the District Meet Friday and Saturday at Kelso High School.

Coach Bemis expects strong performances from swimmers in individual and relay events, citing steady improvement in the regular season.  The start time for both days is 4:00 PM.  Tickets are $6.00 and $4.00.

Girls Cross Country (3.34 Varsity GPA)
The girls finished second in League, second in District and third at Bi-District to qualify for the State Meet at 11:00 AM this Saturday at American Lake Golf Course in Pasco.  Ticket prices are $9.00 and $7.00 for students with ASB and seniors 62 and older.  Visit http://www.wcd3.org/g_Cross_Country.htm for more information.

Boys Cross Country (3.27 Varsity GPA)

Girls Soccer (3.76 Varsity GPA)
Coach Minder and his girls have done it again!  CHS Soccer won the league championship and will play either Enumclaw or Highline Saturday at Doc Harris Stadium at 2:30 PM in a Bi-District game. Ticket prices are $7.00, $5.00 and $4.00. *No passes are accepted for this game. Ticket windows and gates will open at 1:30 PM.

Football (3.06 Varsity GPA)
The CHS Football team completed a perfect regular season (9-0) to win the league championship and will play a Bi-District game this Friday at 7:00 PM against Rainier Beach High School. Ticket prices are $7.00 for adults and students without an ASB and $4.00 for everyone else. *No passes are accepted for this game. Ticket windows and gates will open at 5:30 PM.

Two Fall Sports (boys golf and boys tennis) play a split-season, which means that their regular season takes place in the fall, but their post season immediately follows the spring season.  Why is there a seven-month delay? A considerable number of schools in the state play these sports in the Spring, which means those high schools who compete earlier in the year (mostly on the west side of the state) must wait until their counterparts on the east wrap up their seasons in 2011.

Boys Golf (3.19 Varsity GPA)
CHS golfers won the District Championship and has advanced three golfers to the State Tournament next spring. Two other team members have qualified for the Bi-District Tournament in may and also have a chance to go to State.

Boys Tennis (3.55 Varsity GPA)
The Papermaker Tennis Team finished third in league and advanced two players to the singles final at the District Tennis Tournament. Congratulations to the 2010 District Singles Champion Triton Pitassi and Runner-up Brandon Kang.  Both players have qualified for the Bi-District Tournament in June.

Whether our athletes are competing in town or out of town, for a district title or a state title, or next week or next spring, the encouragement remains the same:  Go Papermakers!
